17/05/2025- Kent Live The secluded Kent bay with soft golden sand, clear water and incredible views

It's hard to believe this tantalising sight with a shimmering sea and white-gold sand is not at some far flung holiday destination, but is, in fact, in Kent. With full sun forecast in the county on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and temperatures sliding up to a lovely 20C in some parts, this is the time to write 'beach day' on your calendar.

This is Botany Bay and the great news is that it has kept its Blue Flag status, which means it's safe and well maintained. At low tide, this beach has wide open spaces, and there are rock pools to be explored.

The coastline is beautiful here and the bay has the dramatic white cliffs and chalk stacks, such a spectacular feature of this area and part of the reason this is one of Kent's most photographed bays. You can walk along to Kingsgate Bay and Joss Bay, but if the tide comes in, you'll have to return via the cliff top walk, or wait it out for six hours, like one person did.

One visitor described secluded Botany Bay, which is between Margate and Broadstairs, as a "gem" and said the highlight of the visit was long walks along the beach and the hilltops. If this is your first time heading to Botany Bay, you must be aware there is no parking in surrounding roads.

It's worth flagging up that Margate is a great town to visit too. You'll love the eclectic mix and fusion of old and new, artsy and kiss-me-quick: and Broadstairs is a contemporary town well worth a visit with its bustling independents, bars, cafes and restaurants.
